English 102 - Reflection #1

Looking back on my semester in English 102; Remembering the first day not sure really what to expect,  I thought it was going to be another boring year of English class with endless reading and writing.  When I first saw our syllabus I felt that I was unprepared, knowing my English 101 class mainly consisted of writing a few essays, and some class discussions. When we were first told that we would be creating our own blogs, I thought I would never be able to do it, but writing came easier with each weekly blog.   I realized that English 102 was going to be more work and I knew that I would have to work harder to get a good grade. It was nothing like English 101.  Now looking back on the class I feel like I came out a better writer and reader, especially being able to understand poetry better.

Literary Devices - Reflection #2

I never knew how much of a connection, as a reader, you can have with a poem. Writers use different literary techniques, forms and sound patterns to create the imagery and connections with their readers. The use of these literary devices such as irony, metaphor, similes, personification and imagery in poetry are what makes that connection. Learning about these literary devices gave me a new perspective of the art. I never really enjoyed reading poetry, or had any idea of what the author was truly meaning. In class we learned more in depth, the meaning of the poems, the words, and how to analysis them. I never knew what a poem could really mean, what really was behind all those words. To read a poem it is like solving a puzzle. Now when I read poetry, I know what the author is trying to say and what they are really meaning.

Greek Theatre - Reflection #3

Oedipus Web Quest was a great way to learn about the Greek theatre. I found that this lesson was a fun, and more interactive way of learning rather then taking notes. We were able to learn more about the Greek Theater through a different perspective. I believe I learned more with this lesson where I was able to look up information and answer the questions that were required. Learning about the Ancient Greek literature and the theater terms help me understand the Oedipus a little more.
